I gained my first degree in Psychology with the Open University, after which I trained as a counsellor with the National Marriage Guidance Council (now called Relate). Having qualified as a Clinical Psychologist and gained a Masters Degree I worked in the NHS before going into private practice in 1993. I have also completed masterclasses in Expert Witness work, am a qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist and Family Mediator, and have trained in and work with varied methods of psychological therapy.
Psychological assessment has always been fundamental to my work, whether as a basis for therapeutic work or for medico-legal assessment purposes. I have for many years worked as a Consultant Assessor for AXA-PPP and have conducted training courses in psychological assessment.
My approach to therapy is client-centred and my intention is always to work in the best and most appropriate way for each unique individual. I draw on a range of techniques including: long and short-term psychological therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy, hypnotherapy, brief solution-focused therapy, systemic family therapy, problem solving and lifestyle enhancing techniques. I also work holistically, and refer to other relevant experts when appropriate.
